While visiting the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation in Athens, I discovered this ceramic, emblematic of Greece, by Yannis Moralis, a great Greek artist (1916-2009).
He is one of the masters of the 1930s Generation. His modernist work offers a synthesis between the past and the present. He developed his own geometric visual language which was expressed in painting, ceramics, illustration and decoration. In addition to creating theater sets and costumes for the Greek National Theater, he designed the facade of the Hilton Hotel in Athens.
I would have taken this plate as a souvenir but it was not for sale…
